Tyrod Taylor will start for Texans in Week 9 vs Dolphins

The Houston Texans have announced that quarterback Tyrod Taylor will start for them Week 9 vs the Miami Dolphins (per Aaron Wilson)

Fantasy Impact: Taylor looked great in his first game for the Texans before getting injured. Taylor finished as a fringe QB1 that week. Fantasy managers could consider streaming Taylor as the Dolphins have given up the 3rd-most QB PPG this year. His return is a boom for Brandin Cooks, who should be considered an elite WR1 this week.

A.J. Green placed on Cardinals’ reserve/COVID list

The Arizona Cardinals have placed wide receiver A.J. Green on their reserve/COVID list, likely ruling him out for Week 9 vs the San Francisco 49ers (per Field Yates)

Fantasy Impact: Green has been a consistent contributor for the Cardinals this season. His absence opens the door for Rondale Moore and Christian Kirk to see more reliable work vs the 49ers. Fantasy managers should treat Kirk as a solid flex option and Moore as a WR3/WR4 with upside.

Aaron Rodgers tests positive for COVID-19, out Week 9 vs Chiefs

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the team’s Week 9 game vs Kansas City Chiefs (per Tom Pelissero)

Fantasy Impact: Obviously this is HUGE news. Rodgers missing the game means Jordan Love will get his first NFL career start against the Chiefs. Davante Adams is still fantasy-viable, though his ceiling is capped in a major way. Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillion are likely to see solid workloads this week.

Michael Thomas return delayed due to new ankle injury

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas’ return will be delayed even further after having a new issue with his ankle emerge (per Ian Rapoport)

Fantasy Impact: Thomas has already missed the entire season so far with an ankle injury. Hearing that there’s something else wrong with it is not encouraging for fantasy managers. At this point, if he’s still on your roster, you likely have an IR slot and that’s where he can stay. If you’ve been wasting a bench spot on him this whole time, it’s worth considering dropping him.

Henry Ruggs charged with DUI resulting in death

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police are charging Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs with DUI resulting in death after a car crash Tuesday morning (per Las Vegas Metropolitan Police)

Impact: Initial reports state that Ruggs crashed the front of his car into the rear of the departed’s. Ruggs showed signs of impairment and was then taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The charge of DUI resulting in death in Nevada is a minimum two years in prison with a max of 20. This charge could result in the end of Ruggs’ career.

Adrian Peterson signs with the Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are signing running back Adrian Peterson to their practice squad with the intent on elevating him to the roster (per Ian Rapoport)

Fantasy Impact: With Derrick Henry sidelined for up to 10 weeks, the Titans are bringing in Peterson to help fill their backfield. Peterson played for the Lions last year and racked up 604 yards on 156 carries and 7 touchdowns. Fantasy managers should be picking up both Peterson and Jeremy McNichols as the Titans figure out their backfield now.

Derrick Henry out indefinitely with foot injury

The Tennessee Titans will be without running back Derrick Henry for the foreseeable future as he will undergo surgery to repair his foot Tuesday (per Adam Schefter)

Fantasy Impact: Devastating news to fantasy teams everywhere. The Titans are reportedly trying out Adrian Peterson to take over their backfield. Right now, the No. 2 back on the Titans’ depth chart is Jeremy McNichols.

Jameis Winston out for season with a torn ACL

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL suffered vs the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (per Ian Rapoport)

Fantasy Impact: With Winston out for the year, Taysom Hill will be the Saints’ starting quarterback moving forward. He’s 100% worth rostering and likely starting given his high rushing floor. This move nukes the value out of any of the Saints’ wide receivers. Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram both still offer value, but will be capped with Hill’s red zone rushing ability.

Calvin Ridley stepping away from football

Atlanta Falcons’ wide receiver Calvin Ridley is stepping away from football to focus on his mental wellbeing (per Calvin Ridley)

Fantasy Impact: Wishing the best for Ridley and hope he is able to get help. Mental health is nothing to take for granted and hopefully the time off will help Ridley become his best self. Fantasy-wise, Russell Gage and Tajae Sharpe become the Falcons’ top wide receivers, though expect the Cordarrelle Patterson/Kyle Pitts show to drive the offense.

Robert Tonyan out for season with torn ACL

Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan is out for the year after suffering an ACL tear against the Arizona Cardinals (per Field Yates)

Fantasy Impact: Terrible loss for the Packers as Tonyan had put together two great games last two weeks. With Tonyan off the field Thursday night, second-year TE Josiah Deguara saw 2 targets, catching both for 20 yards.
