NFL DFS DraftKings Pick One: Top Targets for Week 9

Jakobi Meyers is the perfect mid-priced WR this week vs the Colts. Picking between similarly priced players at each position for Week 9 DFS fantasy football.

Welcome to Week 9 DFS where I run through a selection of similarly priced players on DraftKings from across the positions and pick the one I’d take when building my Sunday main slate lineups. Last week’s selections hit at a 50% rate, with big weeks vs their comps for Kirk Cousins (24.5 points), Khalil Herbert (15.9 points) and DeAndre Hopkins (36.9 points), with TJ Hockenson more than doubling his salary investment (11 points). There were also some disappointments with Daniel Jones struggling against an improving Seahawks defense and Chris Olave seeing half the targets he saw the week before and only putting up 10.2 points.

Onto Week 9 and again I’ve looked across the position groups for some enticing salary match ups to dissect and give my view on who to roster this week.

Justin Herbert @ Atlanta Falcons ($7,200), Tua Tagovailoa @ Chicago Bears ($6,700) or Joe Burrow vs Carolina Panthers ($6,600)

My Pick – Joe Burrow

Even without J’Marr Chase, Burrow has plenty of weapons at his disposal to get back on track after a disappointing loss to the Browns on Monday Night Football. The Panthers rank 20th on pass defense according to NEFF ratings and allowed over 22 points to Marcus Mariota last week and so long as the Bengals’ offensive line can keep him upright I expect a big day from Burrow.

Tom Brady vs Los Angeles Rams ($6,000), Aaron Rodgers @ Detroit Lions ($5,900) or Geno Smith @ Arizona Cardinals ($5,800)

My Pick – Geno Smith

This is such a weird one to write with Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers as the competition but Geno Smith is by far the quarterback in the best form and the Cardinals offer up the 26th-rated pass defense in this encounter. Tyler Lockett ($6,100) and DK Metcalf ($6,400) go into the encounter as healthy as they’ve been in weeks and are great stacking options to go with Smith this week.

Running Back

Leonard Fournette vs Los Angeles Rams ($6,600), Joe Mixon vs Carolina Panthers ($6,500) or D’Andre Swift vs Green Bay Packers ($6,400)

My Pick – Joe Mixon

I’d love to pick D’Andre Swift from this trio but his questionable status heading into the game against the Packers means he’s likely to cede work to Jamaal Williams as he works his way back to full fitness. Therefore Mixon is my guy of these three as he has the easiest route to a big day in DFS as he is by far the leader of his backfield. Mixon has been steady if unspectacular in fantasy, averaging 14.5 PPG this season. But with the loss of J’Marr Chase, Mixon saw nine targets last week, a floor that I like the look of him turning into a big day rushing and receiving this week.

Michael Carter vs Buffalo Bills ($5,500), Antonio Gibson vs Minnesota Vikings ($5,500) or Tyler Allgeier vs Los Angeles Chargers ($5,400)

My Pick – Antonio Gibson

This is an easy one for me with Carter facing a top-3 run defense in our NEFF ratings in the Bills and Tyler Allgeier likely to lose work to the returning Cordarrelle Patterson. Gibson has seen a resurgence in the past two weeks as well as he’s established himself as the primary pass-catching back in Washington, which will only increase with J.D. Mckissic out with a potentially serious neck injury. There’s huge value in a big game from Gibson this week against an average Vikings run defense.

Wide Receiver

Jaylen Waddle @ Chicago Bears ($7,400), Tee Higgins vs Carolina Panthers ($7,300) or Mike Evans vs Los Angeles Rams ($7,200)

My Pick – Jaylen Waddle

I’m riding the hot hand here with Waddle and the Dolphins offense. He’s the 4th-highest average scorer on the wide receiver slate and at a thousand dollars less than those top tier options, is going to be in a lot of my lineups this week.

Christian Kirk vs Las Vegas Raiders ($5,500), Jakobi Meyers vs Indianapolis Colts ($5,400) or Romeo Doubs @ Detroit Lions ($5,300)

My Pick – Jakobi Meyers

Myers feels underpriced considering his fantasy output this season as the WR14 in points per game and that even after last week’s 21 points, he’s seen a salary drop. The Colts are an average pass defense and Meyers was a target hog with Mac Jones back under center last week. Love the upside Meyers offers this week.

Tight End

Mike Gesicki @ Chicago Bears ($4,000), Robert Tonyan @ Detroit Lions ($3,800) or Tyler Higbee @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($3,700)

My Pick – Robert Tonyan

I like Tonyan as an anytime touchdown scorer this week, which without a truly elite tight end on the slate this week means that’s all I’m looking for from my tight end selection for my lineup. The match up against the Lions and their bottom rated pass defense is as good as it gets too.

Defense/Special Teams

Chicago Bears vs Miami Dolphins ($2,500), Seattle Seahawks @ Arizona Cardinals ($2,500) or Washington Commanders vs Minnesota Vikings ($2,400)

My Pick – Seattle Seahawks

No brainer pick this one. The Seahawks are one of the form teams in the NFL and are the 4th-highest scoring DFS defense on Sunday’s slate. As a value play, the Seahawks can’t be beaten this week.
