NFL DFS DraftKings Showdown Week 2 Picks: Chargers at Chiefs

Travis Kelce is still king in Kansas City. Picking the best players to put in your Captain and Flex spot for Week 2's Chargers at Chiefs DFS DraftKings Showdown.

Is the NFL really treating us to two consecutive must-watch Thursday Night Football games to begin the season? To kickstart Week 2, the Los Angeles Chargers will travel to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in a highly-anticipated AFC West bout. The Chargers and the Chiefs both secured wins in Week 1 and we should have a fun DFS showdown slate on DraftKings on Thursday night.

It should be noted that Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes are certainly in play for everyone’s captain spot, but with DraftKings being a full-point PPR site, skill players have a higher chance of being the highest scorer on the slate. Assuming that Keenan Allen is inactive on Thursday night, here are my favorite captain and flex plays for the potentially high-scoring affair between the Chargers and the Chiefs.

Captain Spot Considerations

Travis Kelce ($16,500)

Entering Week 1, it seemed as if a decent portion of fans were preparing themselves to see a declining version of Kelce for the Chiefs. The All-Pro tight end proceeded to catch eight passes for 121 yards and a touchdown for 29.1 DraftKings points in Kansas City’s blowout win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Kelce is unquestionably still Mahomes’ No. 1 target in the passing game as he saw a team-high nine targets against the Cardinals. Even though tight ends aren’t typically ideal choices for the captain spot on the green site, the veteran tight end is an outlier with how often he puts up wide receiver numbers.

Austin Ekeler ($15,300)

It was a surprisingly quiet outing from Ekeler in Week 1 with the dual-threat back totaling 72 scrimmage yards on 18 touches in a game where the Chargers scored 24 points. While some people could turn their back on Ekeler this week, he could see an increased workload in the passing game, especially with Allen likely sidelined.
