NFL DFS Pick One: Cordarrelle Patterson, Josh Jacobs, or Chuba Hubbard

Which running back, Cordarrelle Patterson, Josh Jacobs, or Chuba Hubbard, should you be starting in your DFS lineups for Week 7?

Welcome to NFL DFS Pick One, a series in which, each week, I’ll pick a price range and position that might end up tilting the contest in your behavior and ultimately making a decision on who you should start. Let’s take a look at an interesting batch of running backs for Week 7. We have Cordarrelle Patterson ($6,300) coming off of a bye, a potential Josh Jacobs  ($6,200) resurgence after shedding shedding some head-coach dead weight, and Chubba Hubbard ($6,100) locked in as the Panthers starter for at least another few weeks.

In general, I like this price range. We’re saving a few bucks by not playing the super-stars, but we’re not completely cheaping out and taking a chance on the super high-variance crowd. Each of these backs is getting the lion’s share of the work, but who is the best in the group for Week 7?

3rd Place: Chuba Hubbard vs New York Giants

Chuba Hubbard is third on the list for me. The Panthers offense has been in a bit of a tailspin for the last few games, of course Sam Darnold and company have plenty of talent to turn that ship around. The Giants are giving up the ninth-most fantasy PPR points to opposing backs. The Panthers coaching staff have been in the news a good bit about wanting to pound the rock on the ground. So, this is not a bad spot for Hubbard, but at what point does Royce Freeman get a shot with more volume?

Will Joe Brady continue forcing the ball to middle-of-the-road backs when DJ Moore is unrecoverable?

2nd Place: Josh Jacobs vs Philadelphia Eagles

Josh Jacobs always seems to be playing hurt, but he plays. The Raiders won a big one at Mile-High stadium in Week 6, and Jacobs is getting more and more touches each week. The Eagles are just not very good, giving up the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing RBs, and even though the Raiders offense has been up and down, Derek Carr and his supporting cast could put this one away early, feeding touches early and often to Jacobs to seal the deal.

Jacobs has been pretty consistent, the biggest question for me here is simply will Jacobs disappear like Raiders fantasy-studs have been known to do this year (I’m looking at you Darren Waller and Henry Ruggs!).

1st Place: Cordarrelle Patterson vs Miami Dolphins

Patterson seems like the obvious choice to me for top pick not only in this group but perhaps of all the RBs on the slate. After a slow start in Week 1 (8 PPR points), Patterson has posted 16 or more PPR points every week. Patterson is involved in the red zone, he’s involved in the running game, and he’s involved in the passing game. Patterson was long-ago left for dead in fantasy leagues, but his late-career resurgence has been one of the biggest league-tilters in 2021.

While the Atlanta Falcons have been very, very bad collectively, they will be facing a Dolphins side who are giving up 30 PPR points to opposing fantasy backs every game (second worst in the league).

Patterson is my top pick. Find a way to get him in your lineups!
