Welcome to my quarterback rankings for Week 9 fantasy football.
It was a wild ride for quarterbacks in Week 8, with the will he/won’t he play situation surrounding Dak Prescott burning a fair few fantasy managers. Add to that there was a combination of top players underperforming (Kyler Murray, Patrick Mahomes) plus some replacement passers having surprisingly strong weeks (Mike White, Geno Smith). Despite this minefield of quarterback play, my rankings still finished in line with the expert consensus at Fantasy Pros, though even then it was with one of the highest variances of the season. My stream of the week, Daniel Jones did OK, finishing as the QB13 with 16.08 points, with my DFS play of Matthew Stafford hitting as the QB6 of Week 8 with 24.2 points.
We have four teams on bye in Week 9 so there’s no Tom Brady, Jared Goff, Taylor Heinicke or Geno Smith to rank this week. I continue to look to build on what I’ve seen so far to give you my fantasy football quarterback rankings for this week, and will break down the key streamers (% rostered via Sleeper) and my favorite value DFS plays for the week ahead (price via DraftKings).
These rankings are subject to change throughout the week, so check back as any quarterback news drops to see how it is reflected in my rankings. If you have any specific quarterback rankings or starts and sits questions, drop them in the comments or you can get me @PaddiCooper on Twitter.
Stream of the Week: Jimmy Garoppolo vs Arizona Cardinals (18% rostered)
I straight up don’t like any of the streaming options available this week but Jimmy G put up one of the best fantasy performances of Week 8 (27.28 points) with over 300 yards passing and a pair of rushing touchdowns. The Cardinals have been one of the best fantasy defenses against quarterbacks, but I’d rather stake my week on a quarterback playing for his starting role than putting my hopes on an unseasoned backup. Available in over 80% of leagues, if I have to stream this week then I’m looking Garoppolo’s way.
Alternative streamer – Mike White @ Indianopolis Colts (3% rostered)
DFS Play of the Week: Lamar Jackson ($7,200) vs Minnesota Vikings
In a very swift pivot, I have had to pull Aaron Rodgers from being my DFS play of the week and have promoted Lamar Jackson. The Ravens always feel dangerous coming off a bye and we’ve already seen Jackson play at an extremely high level in 2021. Jackson always has that high rushing floor which currently sits at 8.6 points per game and therefore just needs to hit on a couple of big throws to tip him into a top 5 fantasy play in any given week. I like the match up at home against the Vikings and Jackson will be the starting point for a lot of my DFS lineups this week.
Alternative DFS play – Joe Burrow ($6,800) vs Cleveland Browns
