Welcome to the fantasy football Week 4 running back rankings hub!
Derrick Henry and Alvin Kamara hold the top two spots with Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) and Dalvin Cook (ankle) likely to miss Week 4. Najee Harris’ 19 targets were one-part match-up based and one-part injury based. At least the latter remains intact this week the availability of WRs Diontae Johnson (knee) and JuJu Smith-Schuster (ribs) in doubt. Bronco-backs Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams’ high-floor ways should continue against’s Baltimore’s vulnerable defensive-front.
Below you will find my top-60 running backs for Week 4. These rankings are geared toward .5PPR scoring formats for Week 4 of the 2021 NFL season but should aid those who play in both non-PPR and full-point PPR formats. Check back throughout the week to see how expectations have changed as news continues to roll in, enhancing our prognostication abilities. Week 4 Standouts
Antonio Gibson (RB8) & J.D. McKissic (RB36) — Both Washington backs should run (and receive) wild this week. The Falcons’ defense has allowed 1,121 yards from scrimmage (14th most) and 94 points to opposing offenses. Running backs are totaling 20.8 .5PPR PPG (14th most), crushing the Dirty Birds through the air—6.3 receptions and 45.7 receiving yards per game. While JDM still owns rights to the passing down work, Gibson’s seeing respectable dual threat usage while on the field, running 46 routes to McKissic’s 51, per PFF.com. Plus, The Team has to be eager to put more receiving work on Gibson’s plate after this 73-yard beauty. Treat Gibson as a mid-tier RB1 and JDM as a back-end RB3.
Chuba Hubbard (RB15) — After Christian McCaffrey exited with a hamstring injury Thursday night, rookie Chuba Hubbard handily out-worked veteran Royce Freeman. Hubbard dominated snaps (40 vs. 11) and intended touches (11 carries and 5 targets vs. 5 carries and 1 target). Freeman could get some run but Hubbard is hands down the preferred back here. Expect Hubbard to keep that 5+ intended-touches per quarter pace, en route to a 20+ touch day against Dallas this week.
Peyton Barber (RB21) — Expect another highly usable fantasy week out of the Raiders’ current No. 1 back. Josh Jacobs (toe) was unable to practice at all last week and HC Jon Gruden piled the touches high on Barber’s plate. The recent free agent signee torched the Miami front-seven for 142 yards from scrimmage and 1 touchdown. He only saw one fewer target (five) than designated pass catching back Kenyan Drake (six). This week’s foe, the LA Chargers own the worst run defense per NEFF rating (32.3%).
