Welcome to my tight end rankings for Week 9 fantasy football!
We’re at the halfway point (or a little past it if you want to get picky), and so while I look at performance to date figures for my ranks, it’s time to start looking at “past three weeks” and “past five weeks” performance too. This includes checking the same periods for points allowed to TEs, too. And, of course, we’re still keeping in mind what the bookies think about the overall score will end up being, and now you know the great mystery behind how I make the sausage.
Here are my top tight ends for .5PPR Week 9 fantasy football. I’ve also highlighted both my top streaming option (% rostered via Sleeper) and DFS play at the position (salary via FanDuel) for this week.
Stream of the Week: Pat Freiermuth vs Chicago Bears (41% rostered)
Freiermuth has seen seven targets in the past two games with a bye week in the middle. His numbers haven’t been spectacular but he has been involved in Steelers offense that has been the Najee Harris show for most of the year. He may be sliding in to that JuJu Smith-Schuster role, AKA that “its 3rd-and-3 and Najee is doubled” option.
With Freiermuth rostered in less than half of CBS leagues, you might want to double-check your waiver wire to see if you can pick up some help at tight end before this two-game blip becomes a trend that propels ole Pat to the top of the 2022 TE ranks.
DFS Play of the Week: Mike Gesicki vs Houston Texans ($6,500)
The Dolphins passing tree has been fairly narrow with Tua Tagovailoa under center, the main beneficiaries being TE Mike Gesicki, and rookie standout Jalen Waddle. The Dolphins face off against the Texans this week, and even though the Texans have performed well in points allowed to TEs over the past few weeks, as a team, the Texans are in the last few rotations around the toilet bowl.
Despite a no-confidence vote from Miami’s front office, Tua has played some good football in 2021. Against soft opponents, Tua has performed brilliantly for his fantasy managers. This week will be his softest opponent yet, making that 30-some-odd point performance against Atlanta look ripe for a repeat. Waddle and Gesicki are absolute must-starts in all formats and should top your list of targets in DFS.
